Cost effective and high impact. Cat delivers high quality work, backed by a clear research methodology and a careful ear for accuracy and authenticity. Her expert guidance in developing the design of the commission was invaluable, and she had a perfect engagement approach with our members and stakeholders throughout. It’s not often you commission something and the final product ends up being better than that first flash of thought, but with Cat, it did!
— Warren Escadale, CEO, Voluntary Sector North West (VSNW)
Cat is the first person I think of when I need complex or important work done to a high standard. She wrote the first edition of the World Giving Index for us at CAF and laid the foundations for a successful program that has measured global giving ever since. She is very incisive, reliable, and down to earth.
— Richard Harrison, former Head of Research at Charities Aid Foundation
I worked with Cat while at the Association of Charitable Foundation. She was the lead researcher in producing Foundation Giving Trends at a time when ACF was thinking about how this piece of work might change and evolve in the future. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Cat, who supported me to be inducted into the world of FGT (it was new to me and not to her)– no question was too stupid to ask – she was always responsive and gracious in her replies even when I was opening up questions about FGT that could have been difficult. Cat is the consummate professional and keeps focussed on the job at hand, going above and beyond to do the best job she can – and her eye for detail is masterful. I hope that we get a chance to work again in the future.
— Dr Ambreen Shah, Freelance Charity Consultant / Interim Director of External Relations at the Association of Charitable Foundations
The Big Give co-commissioned The Researchery to undertake the UK’s first piece of research on match funding. Despite it being a fairly complex piece of work mixing qualitative and quantitative data and working with several other stakeholders, Cat managed the whole project excellently, from scoping all the way to final design, and we were delighted with the output. She delivered on time and to budget. We have since used The Researchery for other research projects and we would whole-heatedly recommend to anyone looking to undertake social research.
— Alex Day, Director, The Big Give
Catherine led a team that researched and published to great acclaim a unique directory of military charities and analysis of the sector. We required rigorous research, and credible findings, and were delighted as funders that we got all this and more. Catherine’s approach, and particularly her ability to manage disparate stakeholders, ensured a genuinely seminal and strategic piece of work. For that I forgive her bumping me off the Sky News sofa.
— Air Vice-Marshal Ray Lock CBE, Chief Executive, Forces in Mind Trust
The Maritime Charities Group commissioned The Researchery to undertake a wide ranging review of the UK Maritime Charity Welfare Sector. Cat Walker and her independent co-researcher Deborah Fairclough delivered a comprehensive, insightful and challenging report entitled “Navigating Change”, which has won plaudits from across our very diverse industry and will influence our sector for many years to come. If you need a small but agile research team that has extensive knowledge of how charities operate, has excellent research and analytical skills and an ability to communicate complex messages in a very clear way, then we would thoroughly recommend the Researchery
— Commodore Barry Bryant CV RN, Director General, Seafarers UK and Chair of The Maritime Charities Group
Cat was commissioned to review and assess the ‘Give More’ campaign because her knowledge, expertise and integrity made her the ideal person for the job. Her honesty and diplomacy in this task were both refreshing and essential to the success of the project. I would recommend her to anyone looking for expert voluntary sector insight.
— Tamar Ghosh, Director of the 'Give More' campaign (under the aegis of The Pears Foundation)
I was really impressed with the quality of the research produced by Cat, particularly the analysis of the finances and reserves of maritime charities. It was a fascinating read and formed an excellent basis for our conference session on reserves.
— Kate Sayer, Senior Consultant, Sayer Vincent Chartered Charity Accountants
Led by Dr Catherine Walker, DSC’s research team worked closely with us to produce a high quality report on corporate giving that has helped us to explore several new approaches to our corporate partnerships
